If the nape of the neck is dirty, it makes me feel less confident about my back. If you have been struggling with the way your hair grows at the nape of your neck for more than 10 years, how can you get rid of this problem? We asked hairdressers from all over Japan to answer this question.
This time, the concern is, “My hair growth at the nape of my neck is messy, what can I do about it?”
I am a male and I hate it when people look behind me because of the messy way my hair grows at the nape of my neck.
Or how to get a barber to shave you.
If you are concerned about the dirty nape of your neck, one respondent suggested that you go to a barber to have it shaved.
The answer was, “Why don’t you go to a barber and have him shave it? Hairdressers are legally not allowed to shave, so I would recommend a barber only for the collar.” (Sunrise Shell, Meguro, Tokyo)
Use trimmers to shape
Many respondents suggested using a trimmer or similar tool to shape the nape of the neck themselves.
The nape of the neck (collar) grows in different ways depending on the person, and many people seem to have a complex about it. It might be better to shape it properly and trim it once a week or so, just as you shave your beard with a commercial trimmer. It is probably difficult to obtain a style that will remain ideal for a long time, so why not learn some simple know-how and give it a try?” (Tokyo/Machida, Imagine Amity)
I think it’s a good idea to use a trimmer, which is simply a small version of a hair clipper (or a clipper for beards), to trim the hair at the nape of the neck when it grows long enough. (Osaka/Sakai HAIRS be road, Hatsushiba)
I recommend extending it until the nape of the neck is not visible or trimming it.
Many respondents recommended growing out the hair until the nape of the neck is no longer visible, or trimming the hair to the best of one’s ability.
One respondent said, “I know it’s difficult because you can’t change the way your hair grows, but how about going for a very short style and trimming it, or growing it out until you can’t see the nape of your neck?” (Tokyo/Setagaya gally)
“You can’t do anything about the way your hair grows, so why don’t you grow it out and get a perm, or if it’s okay for your job, try trimming it in a two-block style?” (Kanagawa/Yokohama Hair Salon GIFT)
If you are okay with a little longer hair, depending on your lifestyle, I would recommend extending the length of your collar to a length you don’t mind hiding the nape of your neck. That way, I am sure you won’t mind people looking at the back.” (Tokyo/Toshima Community Salon To Wa Sugamo)
“How about taking the plunge and giving your hair a trim? There are a lot of cool styles of hair cut now, so I think it will look good. (Tokyo/Teshima ROULAND)
What did you think? It seems that there are various ways to cover the dirty part of the nape of the neck, such as shaving, trimming, and extending. If you are really concerned about it, it might be a good idea to consult with your hair stylist about your hair style as well.
