Season of high UV rays. Many of you may be concerned not only about UV protection for your skin, but also about damage to your hair. In fact, in order to protect your hair from UV damage, it is important to know when your hair is most vulnerable to damage. Once you know this, moisturized and shiny hair is yours!
What you may or may not know about the effects of UV rays on your hair
To begin with, you should know that hair is actually very sensitive to ultraviolet rays. The reason is that hair contains a lot of melanin, the pigment that makes skin and hair look black, and it absorbs UV rays of invisible color wavelengths, so UV rays have almost no effect on hair.
It is the same as choosing a black color for a parasol, which is more effective in blocking UV rays. The reason why hair tends to become dry or lose its color in summer is because hair is exposed to more UV rays in an alkaline state.
Dry hair always maintains an acidic state to tighten the cuticle. When it becomes alkaline, the cuticle opens and ultraviolet rays rob the hair of its internal moisture. This means that if you take care of your hair to keep it acidic, you can maintain its usual resistance to UV rays.
Summer Hair Care
There are three times when hair becomes “alkaline” which opens the cuticle and makes it easy for hair to lose moisture.
1: When hair is soaked with sweat.
2: When hair is wet from seawater or pool water.
3: During the first few days after hair coloring, etc.
In order to return the “open cuticles” common to all of these situations to normal, there is a trick to “selecting a shampoo. The key is to choose a shampoo with good lather. If it contains citric acid, it is even better. You shampoo your hair after it gets wet and for several days after coloring.
If the shampoo does not lather well, the cuticles will come off, which is very important. Once the cuticle is removed, it cannot be restored, so lather shampoo by hand and wash thoroughly from the scalp to gently remove sweat, sea water, and chemicals.
If the shampoo contains citric acid, it will be more effective in returning alkalinity to acidity, thus returning hair to a healthy state more quickly. But if you are not in a position to wash wet hair right away, a no-rinse treatment comes into play.
Simply apply a cream or oil type to wet hair to protect the cuticle. It is also a good idea to avoid direct exposure to ultraviolet rays by using a parasol.
Do I need sunscreen for my hair?
There is no “hair burn” phenomenon, so please consider that sunscreen for hair also protects the cuticle. However, the spray will also come off when wet, so please choose shampoo when you wash your hair, and a non-washout treatment or parasol as a summer care item.
