Proper brushing creates shiny hair. Instead of simply brushing with a proper hairbrush, use a hairbrush that is appropriate for both the scalp and the hair.
Not so good hairbrush
Nylon and plastic hairbrushes are inexpensive and easy to use. They are durable, easy to wash, and inexpensive to use in terms of combing hair, but they are not suitable for shiny hair.
When brushing hair, static electricity is generated and hits the scalp hard. Static electricity can also cause hair to lose moisture, and a stiff hairbrush can damage the scalp, so it is best to avoid using nylon or plastic brushes all the time.
Vegetable-based natural materials
Wooden and bamboo hairbrushes do not generate static electricity and are gentle against the scalp. They feel warm in the hand and soft against the scalp.
Brushing also has a massaging effect on the scalp and can promote blood circulation. They are not particularly cheap, but are often affordable.
Natural animal materials
Pig hair is probably the most well-known hairbrush made of animal hair. Since pig hair brushes are made of animal protein, which is similar to the properties of human hair, they do not cause any stress when brushing hair.
Of course, you can massage your scalp without damaging it, and it does not generate static electricity. The only negative factor is that the raw materials are scarce, so it cannot be mass-produced, and the price is high.
Even more expensive than pig hair is a boar bristle hairbrush. This one is priced much higher, perhaps because there are even fewer raw materials available. It is firmer and gentler to the touch than pig hair.
Mixed material type
Some brand-name manufacturers sell hair brushes that are a mix of boar or pig hair and nylon. The use of nylon in some of these brushes helps keep the price down and allows them to hit the hair and scalp more gently.
It is easier to get a similar feel than using a 100% boar-bristle hairbrush, which is a high-end product. However, some brands have a mixed type that is priced the same as animal hair brushes.
Which one is right for you?
For shiny hair, a non-irritating, natural hairbrush is the right choice. However, it can be difficult to decide which one to buy because you cannot try a sample. Check out reviews and actually hold the brush to get a feel for it to find the best hairbrush for you.
You can also start with a reasonably priced hairbrush rather than buying an expensive one and making a mistake.
