It would be nice if we could reproduce the perms we had styled at the salon every day, but without knowing the tricks of the trade, it is quite difficult. Here, we will introduce a styling method that will make your hair look as if it were styled at a salon.
5 steps for styling perms
Required Tools
Hair dryer
Clips
Mist spray
Hair conditioner ・Rinse-off treatment
Styling products such as oil and wax (light-hard wax with a little more water is recommended)
There are various types of “leave-in treatments,” including oil and cream types, but basically any of them will do.
Towel dry thoroughly.
Towel dry hair so thoroughly to the roots that there is no more moisture to be removed with a towel. This will greatly reduce the drying time.
- Apply the leave-in treatment evenly.
Uneven application of treatment will lead to damage and uneven ridge formation. Avoid applying it to the roots, and only apply it to the part of the hair that is permed.
If you find that your hair becomes dry and shaggy, apply a 1:1 ratio of treatment and wax here to keep hair moist and manageable.
Divide hair into upper and lower sections and dry from the permed sections.
Part the hair up and down around the level of the ears, and clip it in place. Then, start drying the hair from the collar side. Grip the permanent part lightly while lifting it with your hand, and blow dryer air while crumpling the hair. Rather than directing the air from the hair dryer into the hair, let the air blow into your hands. Once the permanent part is dry, dry the roots while lifting the hair bundle.
At this point, be careful not to blow air on the already dry part as much as possible. Do not blow the hair too close to the hair dryer, but move the hair dryer as you do so. Usually, people say, “Start from the roots,” but in most cases, the permed part will be dry before the roots are dry. Therefore, the root area should be left until later.
- Look at the overall balance.
If there is any part of the wave that is weak, wet your hand with a misting spray and grip the weak part with that hand. This will restore the wave enough to blend with the others. If you feel that the volume is not enough, apply a hair dryer from below and let the wind blow inside to dry and fluff the hair. - Apply styling products.
Again, blocking is done and styling product is carefully applied. For a beautiful finish, apply styling product from the bottom.
