A “hair iron” is a must-have item for girls. Of course I have one! I am sure there are many people who say, “Of course I have a hair iron!
However, it is quite difficult to master a hair iron, and many people struggle until they get the hang of it. So here, I will show you how to use it properly, based on my own reflection after having put my hair iron to sleep for more than a year after purchasing it.
Properly select the thickness of the iron.
Hair irons come in different “thicknesses”. Choosing this “thickness” correctly is the secret to success.
Basically, the longer your hair is, the thicker the iron you should choose. For a length of about semi-long, 32mm is recommended, and this is the basic thickness. For short-cut to medium length hair, a 26mm iron, which is shorter than this, is recommended.
On the other hand, if you have long hair, 38mm is useful.
As you can see, the basic rule of thumb is to choose the thickness of hair iron based on the “length of hair. However, in addition to that, the choice also depends on “what shape of curls you want to create. If you want to create strong, curly curls, you should choose a 26mm hair iron, even if you have long hair.
On the other hand, if you want to create loose curls even with short hair, 32mm is recommended.
Before and when using a hair iron
- Apply curling lotion.
Hair irons are designed to apply heat to curl hair. No matter how good the performance of a hair iron is, damage is still unavoidable. Therefore, it is important to protect your hair before using a hair iron.
For this purpose, there is something called curling lotion. Often in liquid form, this is easy to use and is simply sprayed on the hair. After that, use a hair dryer to remove excess water so the curls do not stick too tightly.
- Blocking the hair
Once this is done, block the hair. Clips make this easy! - Finally, curl the hair.
Divide the hair into about 4 sections and curl them one by one. At this point, start at the middle of the hair! - How to finish?
When you have finished curling, apply cool air to finish. If excess heat is blown out, the curl will last longer. Or you can use a styling product!
That’s it for the basic selection and use of hair irons. Now you just need to get used to it!
